Prototype Fidelity and Innovations

Since its introduction in 1994, our "The Showcase Line" series of quality locomotives and freight cars has set the standard for Ready to Run "S" scale models. Our injection molded ABS® equipment includes innovative features such as: dual insulated metal wheelsets, self lubricating Celcon® conical bearings in die-cast metal trucks, laser printed lettering (as small as 1"), photo engraved metal running boards, formed metal hand and roof grabs as well as DCC (Digital Command Control) compatibility in our locomotives. These are a few of the many new ideas for "S" we have pioneered. Like the finest products in other scales, ours are designed from actual railroad drawings from historical societies or from railroad archives.

The Ideal Scale

Since its introduction in the 30's, 1:64 or 3/16" to the foot scale model railroading has intrigued modelers of all ages. A big boost to the scale came in 1946 when A.C. Gilbert Co. marketed S Scale trains that operated on 2-rail track. This introduced millions of children and parents to the advantages of "S" over the diminutive HO or O-27, operating on three rail track with its un-prototypical stubby appearance. But, today is the golden age of "S" with many more companies offering a much greater variety of ready to run S scale products. The choices and quality of "S" scale models has never been better.

About The Showcase Line Models

All of our trains come ready to run and equipped to operate with American Flyer® trains on American Flyer two rail track. As an option, all our Showcase Line model trains (except for steam engines) include NMRA (National Model Railroad Association) RP-25 wheel contour, code 110 wheel sets. This allows our products to be converted to operate on layouts gauged to NASG (National Association of S Gaugers) standards. These allow the S modeler to build a track system with even more realistic height rail and prototypically proportioned switches (turnouts) that American Flyer compatible wheel sets cannot negotiate. Steam Engines must be ordered as either AF compatible or scale, because of the difficulty of changing drivers. Another Showcase Line option is the KD-802 coupler (not included). These body mounted couplers allow for more realistic looking close coupling of locomotives and cars. All our models have pre-drilled holes to accommodate these couplers, just remove the trucks and the American Flyer compatible "Grip n' Go" couplers and install the KD-802's.
