This is our second in a series of F units.
In 1949, EMD introduced
a next generation of F units, designated as F-7s. The key improvements over
the F-3 included increased horsepower, traction motors and use of the 36"
'pancake fan' for the dynamic brakes, instead of the four 'squirrel cage blowers'
found on the F-3s.

The phase I F-7 features stainless steel Farr grill work below the roof, with 4 louvers between the side windows. This phase of F-7 maintained the square rear door window, as well as the square door frames found on the F-3s. |

Available road names include: AT&SF (passenger scheme) - stainless steel panels (chrome plated), aluminum body, red nose with red and yellow striping; AT&SF (freight scheme) - blue body with yellow nose and lettering; Boston & Maine - maroon body with yellow stripes and Minute Man logo; DRG&W - silver and gold body with 4 black stripes; Great Northern Omaha orange and Pullman green body with gold trim; Missouri Pacific - Eagle grey and Eagle blue body with cream stripes and red buzz saw logo on nose; Pennsylvania - Brunswick green body, imitation gold stripes and red Keystone; Unlettered - primer grey.
