Modeled after the Duluth Missabe & Iron Range U-27 "Lake Superior" design 70 ton ore car as built in 1949 (29500-30499) by Pressed Steel Car Co. These cars were still in service on the DM&IR in 2000. Many of these cars were sold to the C&NW, RI and ACL for use in MOW service.

The car is similar to thousands of others built in the 30's through 50's used to move iron ore in Minnesota and Ontario. The coupled length of these cars was 24' designed to accommodate the docks at Two Harbors, Superior Ashland/Duluth, Escanaba, Marquette and Thunder Bay.

The model is molded in rugged ABS plastic. Other features include: opening hopper bay doors, hand grabs of formed music wire, Zamac® center sill and bolster, AB brake system, Ajax brake wheel and NEW correct 5' wheel base 70 ton freight trucks die-cast metal sprung trucks.

Naturally each car comes "Ready-to-Run" with AF compatible metal wheels and couplers, and also includes the replacement metal wheel sets to the Code 110, NMRA RP-25, and a set of our KD style couplers. We also have pre-drilled the mounting holes for our KD style coupler, so they are easy to install.

These models are available as a single car, or in 5-car sets. There is a different road number on the single car and each of the cars in the set. Some roads have two 5-car sets, thus 11 different road numbers.

Our products are models, intended for use by people at least 14 years old. They are not intended to be used as toys by children under 14 years old.
