Panel Side Hoppers
Our panel
side
hopper is modeled after the Union Metal Products Co. pressed steel panel sides
with separate stakes used for NYC on lot 387-H USRA hoppers, rebuilt at the
Central Avis, PA shops in 1933. This increased the cubic feet from the 1880
cu. ft. of the as built car to 1942 cu. ft. Eventually, over 1500 cars were
rebuilt by the NYC with panel sides Several railroads rebuilt both 2 and 3
bay
hoppers using panel sides. Some, such as the PRR and NH only rebuilt one car.
Other
railroads, like the Wabash, Frisco and CN rebuilt thousands of cars with these
distinctive sides.
Made of ABS
injection molded plastic with wood grain, details
include formed metal handgrabs, Celcon® axle bearings, die-cast sprung
metal
trucks, complete AB brake system and opening hopper bay doors. Cars come complete
with AF compatible wheels and AF compatible operating couplers. Code 110 wheel
sets are included for conversion to scale operation. Cars are cored to accept
a KD802 coupler.
