40' Wooden Billboard Reefer Cars

S Helper Service is very proud of our 40' wooden “Billboard Reefer”. This car is one of our favorites and we think S Gaugers will agree that these are our most beautiful freight cars.

Our car is modeled after the 40' wooden, end bunker, ice cooled refrigerator cars built for the NWX (Northwestern Refrigerator Line Company) 7000 -7999 series in 1928 by American Car & Foundry. Our car is similar to thousands of others built during the 20's and 30's that were used as rolling “Billboards” during the most colorful era of American Railroading. In July 1934 the ICC outlawed the painting of billboards as an illegal rebate to the leassee. After that, the leassee name could be no taller than 12".

Our model is molded in rugged ABS plastic simulating the all wood construction of the sides, ends and roof just like the real “Billboard Reefers”, side and end ladders with music wire rungs, USRA style fish belly center sill, KC brake system with a Vertical brake shaft, die-cast metal sprung trucks and opening roof hatches. Each reefer will come with 4 code 110 NMRA RP-25 metal wheelsets and the mounting holes for the KD #802.
